Provenance

Sale, Christie's London, 12th July 2006, lot 240, where acquired by the present owner

Condition

Original canvas. The canvas undulates in the corners, most particularly in the upper left and right corners. The surface is intentionally uneven and a few tiny white marks seem to correspond to tiny losses to the surface. There is an old nail hole to the figure's arm along the upper edge and some very minor craquelure to the figure's arms near where the canvas is pulled over the stretcher. There is some surface matter in the upper right corner. The surface is slightly dirty. Ultraviolet light reveals no apparent signs of retouching. Held in a gilt plaster frame. Please telephone the department on 020 7293 5381 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
