Catalogue Note

A fine, unopened copy of the author's final novel.

Volumes 2 and 4 in this copy have a leaf "Contents of the second [fourth] volume" following the title page. These are not noted by Baker & Ross for this edition, but according to them are present in all four volumes of the second printing (identified as such by the wording on the title, "a new edition") [A11.1.b]. Sadleir suggests that they indicate a second issue, but notes "their appearance is somewhat fortuitous".
