Catalogue Note

A fine copy of the first edition of Jane Austen's celebrated send-up of the gothic romance. Northanger Abbey was completed in 1798 or 1799, and then substantially revised over time. Persuasion, a more gentle satire of manners, was written between 1815 and 1816. Both novels were published posthumously in this tandem edition of 1,750 copies.
