Catalogue Note

This edition comprises a parallel text with French translation opposite the English text. Robert Ross, in a letter to More Adey, dated 14 December 1900 notes that Raymond de la Tailhade was one of a number of "various poets and literary people" who called to see Wilde's body (see ed. Merlin Holland and Rupert Hart-Davis, The Complete Letters of Oscar Wilde, London, 2000, p.1221). The only other inscribed copy of this edition to have been offered at auction was a copy inscribed by Wilde to Frank Harris (Christie's New York, 6 February 1981, lot 390 and Sotheby's New York, 13 April 2004, lot 251).
