Catalogue Note
First edition of the young author's classic and extraordinary work, which sold 60,000 copies within a year and nearly two million by 1868. Isabella Beeton herself shared only in the initial success of the book, dying of peritonitis and puerperal fever on 6 February 1865, eight days after the birth of her son.
