8vo (195 x 122mm.), 3 volumes, first edition in book form, first issue (volume 3, p.238, line 17, with misplaced quotation mark and comma around the first word), 6 wood-engraved plates by Dalziel after J.E. Millais, last leaf in volumes 2 and 3 blank except for printer's imprint, 16pp. publisher's catalogue dated April 1861 at end of volume 3, original blindstamped grey-purple cloth, spine lettered in gilt, modern blue cloth chemise (with book label - see below) and slipcase, very short tear in margin of p.3 of volume 1, edges of bindings and spines somewhat faded, head and foot of joints very slightly cracked (with occasional very minor loss)

A good copy in original cloth of a work which Sadleir considered rare in good condition. Framley Parsonage, the fourth of the Chronicles of Barsetshire, was first published in the Cornhill Magazine between January 1860 and April 1861.
