Catalogue Note

The shape of this bottle is identical to a white jade example in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, which bears a Qianlong mark on the base, illustrated in Chang Lin-shen, Snuff Bottles in the Collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, p. 150, fig. 123.

With the delicately carved lappets at the foot and neck, the double-gourd shape is lent an air of sophistication, especially when coupled with the coveted yellow-green color of the jade. For a vessel of this form, the interior is very well hollowed, further supporting a possible Imperial attribution.
