Condition
The sheet is sound and is undulating slightly. There is an very small hole in the upper right corner and there appears to be an old two centimeter long tear to the centre of the right edge. There are some minor surface abrasions scattered along the right edge of the work. There are some minor spots of staining scattered across the drawing, including a small area in the centre of the right edge around the aforementioned tear which makes it hard to see. Otherwise in good overall condition.
Held under glass in a two toned gilt plaster frame with a grey mount. The picture is unexamined out of the frame.

Catalogue Note
Kernoff won the Taylor Scholarship in 1923, for both the oil and watercolour categories (see lot 58). The present work is most likely a sketch for his winning oil painting.
