Catalogue Note

Executed in 1935.

Ringsend was named from the Gaelic Roinn Aun or Sea Point and in the 17th century, it took over from Dalkey as Dublin's main port. While the dock went into commercial decline in the 19th and 20th centuries, Kernoff's vivid depiction of the characters and their surroundings in the present work highlights the ongoing vibrancy of the locale.
