Panayiotis Tetsis

Tetsis is well known for the richness of his palette, the combined painterly and plastic quality of his works, the rhythmic layout and the starkness of his light, and this oil embodies these strengths. Expressionist in feel, his Hydra landscapes, seascapes and still-lifes treat light at different times of day and in different seasons. Tetsis was born on Hydra in 1925; his childhood and early teenage years were spent on the island. The beauty of its seascapes and the unique tints of light that fall on Hydra made, and still make, an indelible impression on his aesthetic sensibility.
