Catalogue Note
The original address can be read in part 'Post Office, Yokohama, Japan'; stuck to the reverse is a small section of paper (the same as the piece) which has a 'Yokohama Meiji 27' arrival date stamp of 27 June 1894. This corresponds correctly with a transit period of one month from England to Japan at this time. This 1d. bisect is not listed by Stanley Gibbons, though the 2d. Plate 9 bisected is listed, and priced at £5,000 used on piece
