the oval body with gently raised prow colorfully enameled with fantastic flowers and foliage interspersed with geometric ornament on cream and pale green grounds, the raised handle enameled with stylized foliage and geometric ornament against cream, pea green, and lapis blue grounds, all the ornament heightened with applied wires, the body richly studded with eight gemstones en cabochon including amethyst, garnets, and chrysoprase, the interior and the back of the handle gilded, set on a spreading foot with cable border

Catalogue Note

Rückert is unique among the Russian jewelers for having experimented with an unusual range of darker colors such as grey and black. This kovsh is an excellent example of such bold designs; decorative elements on the body are accented with areas of an unusually pure and brilliant black enamel.
