Catalogue Note

Pierre-Joseph Bisiaux, prior to the Revolution, worked for such eminent collectors as Mirabeau, Madame du Barry and for Louis XVI himself.  He continued to work through the difficult Revolutionary years, and was referred to by Ramsden as "one of the leading binders of the transition from the Monarchy to the Directory."
