platinum print, on a hand-ruled paper mount, initialed and titled in pencil and with the photographer's monogram blindstamp on the mount, signed in pencil and with the photographer's letterpress bookplate on the reverse, early 1900s

Condition

This warm, finely detailed print, on matte-surface paper and laid on a paper mount, is in generally excellent condition. In the lower right quadrant of the image, there is an eraser-sized light rust-colored area. Very minor foxing is evident on the mount to the right of the print. There is very light soiling from handling along the lower mount edge. On the reverse of the mount, there is light graphite rubbing and rust-colored soiling. Written on the reverse of the mount in pencil is 'Mount St. Michel Cloisters,' suggesting that Evans repurposed this mount. Written in an unidentified hand in pencil is 'E.R. Aitkin, 47 Avondale Rd, Yonkers, NY, 10710.' Also on the reverse is a ½-inch rectangular label with number '34' written in ink.
