Description

  • Brassaï
  • 'PASSAGE DE CLOUTÉ, RUE DE RIVOLI, PARIS'
  • Gelatin silver print
ferrotyped, signed, titled, dated, and numbered in pencil and with the photographer's '81, Rue du Faubourg Saint-Jacques, Paris-XIV, Port-Royal 23-42' studio stamp on the reverse, framed, 1937

Provenance

Acquired from Pace/MacGill, New York

Condition

This early ferrotyped print is in generally very good to excellent condition. The edges are rubbed, and the corners are slightly bumped. There is a tiny loss at the tip of the upper right print corner. As is typical of ferrotyped prints, some small pitting of the surface is visible in raking light. In addition, in raking light, there is minor creasing visible. These do not break the emulsion and do not detract from the overall attractive appearance of this print. The numbers on the reverse of the print are: 'P. 564 (underlined)', 'No. 11 (circled)', and '4/30.' When examined with a blacklight, the print does not appear to fluoresce. There are Camera Work, Berlin, and Pace/MacGill, New York, gallery labels on the reverse of the frame.
