Condition

'Portrait [Dennis Purcell], Stack of Rails'-- This print, on paper with a surface sheen and mounted on Crescent illustration board, is in generally fair to good condition. The edges are rubbed, and there is small chipping at the lower edge. In raking light, the following are visible: occasional light scratches and indentations overall that do not break the emulsion; a raised area where a particle has been trapped between the mount and dry-mounting tissue; and original retouching. The annotation on the reverse is 'Memo 1286, #B.' G. S. [Gerry Sharpe] Reflections in Glass (horizontal)-- This print, on paper with a slight surface sheen, is in generally fair condition. There is chipping at the edges. When examined in raking light, the following are visible: light scratches overall that do not break the emulsion; an uneven surface, particularly in the upper portion of the print, the result of uneven mounting; and deposits of original retouching, some of which have turned lighter. The edges of the cream-colored mount are rubbed, and the corners are bumped and creased. The mount is lightly soiled, and there is staining at the right edge on the front, possibly from liquid residue. The reverse of the mount is soiled. G. S.
