Description
- Ansel Adams
- 'RAIL FENCE - TETON'
- Gelatin silver print
from a Polaroid Type 55 negative, mounted on Crescent illustration board, annotation in ink on the mount, a Carmel studio stamp (BMFA 5), with title in pencil, on the reverse, 1965
Condition
This print is in generally excellent condition. In raking light, the following are visible: faint scuffs not breaking the emulsion in the upper left sky area; a tiny, barely noticeable mounting crease in the upper right sky area; and several tiny deposits of original retouching. The annotation '55 P/N' is in black ink on the front of the mount in the lower left corner.
There is very slight age-darkening at the periphery of the mount.
Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career. Although the authors' assessment of the use dates of stamp 5 on the reverse of this print: 1962 to 1963, this print is dated 1965 by Adams on the reverse of the mount.
