Right profile - In raking light, a small soft handling crease is visible near the bottom edge of the image. Frontal view - In raking light, a few fingerprints and small surface scuffs are visible throughout the image.

Catalogue Note

In the early 1990s, Janeil Engelstad, director of Public Programs and Development for The Education Project, conceived of Art Works, a not-for-profit program that would pair at-risk teenagers from New York who showed an interest in photography with professional photographers.  Funded in part by the Polaroid Corporation, Art Works engaged its young participants with the use of the large-format Polaroid camera in efforts to promote learning and self-expression.  Among others, participating artists included Chuck Close, Laurie Simmons, and William Wegman.  The photographs offered here, and in Lots 111 and 170, come from these student-artist collaborations.
