Good overall condition, original canvas.
Some paint loss and upheaval in the right part of the painting.
A thin network of cracks in the right part.
Under the ultraviolet light, some scattered restorations on the surface in particular in the right part.

Notre tableau représente la gare Saint-Lazare. Inaugurée en 1867, elle a inspiré d'un grand nombre de peintres, dont le plus célèbre d'entre eux, Claude Monet, l'a immortalisée dans une série qui fut exposée à la 3ème exposition impressionniste de 1877. A la même époque, des artistes comme Gustave Caillebotte, Norbert Goeneutte, ou encore Jean Béraud exécutaient également des variantes sur ce thème. Ces œuvres remarquables sont à mettre en relation avec les écrits des romanciers réalistes contemporains, tels Maupassant ou Zola, qui ont aussi dépeint le monde des gares et des cheminots.
