Condition

Very good overall condition The painting is dirty and the varnish is yellowed. Some paint losses and worns in the right side. Under the ultraviolet light, old restoration on the legs of the figure and a small scratch in the right side.

Catalogue Note

Artiste bordelais, d'origine galloise par son père, Alfred Smith se définit principalement comme un peintre de paysage. Attaché à la représentation de la nature, il y consacra une grande partie de son œuvre. Toutefois, Smith refuse  de s'astreindre à un genre précis. Il choisit, au contraire, de dépeindre des motifs multiples et divers, notamment des scènes de la vie moderne, telle cette Promenade en bateau. Ces fragments de vie contemporaine valurent à l'artiste d'être considéré comme l'un des meilleurs représentants de l'art de son temps.
