Condition

The drawing is on 3 sheets of beige paper. 2 long, irregular and vertical tears which cross the drawing (visible on the reproduction). The tear near the dancer dancing was partly cut by the artist. Some small stains. Small tears in the left corner and in the left side. The colors are too pink in the catalogue reproduction.

Catalogue Note

Elève de l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Dijon, Louis Legrand vint à Paris en 1884 suivre les leçons de Félicien Rops. En 1891, il consacra un numéro spécial du Gil Blas illustré au bal du Moulin rouge et s'intéressa au monde de la danse. Il illustra de nombreux volumes, dont un Cours de danse fin de siècle (1892). Sa fréquentation assidue des salles de répétition et des coulisses lui inspira une série d'œuvres, où il représenta la vie nocturne parisienne de l'époque.
