Description
- head of a bishop
- gilt and polychromed wood
Condition
The head was carved in sections and joints are visible running along the left side of the head, back of the neck and at the base of both uprights of the mitre. There is some stable, naturally occurring, minor splitting. There are several losses to the painted surface including to the tip of the nose, the proper right eyebrow, back of the head and to the edges of the truncation, beard and ears. There is general wear to the gilding on the mitre. The tips of the mitre were both lost. There is worming to the back of the base; a small section of wood was added to the underside to stabilise the head. Otherwise the condition of the head is stable.
