Description
- processional cross with the Four Evangelists
- silvered copper with ivory beads, four partially enamelled silver roundels and a wood core, on a modern ebonised wood base
Condition
Overall the condition of the cross is good. There is wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age and handling. The silvering is tarnished and worn throughout. Some of the sheets of copper are slightly warped or dented. The figure of Christ is lost; mounting holes are still in place. The cross is missing decorations along its sides. The roundels with the Evangelists have lost most of their enamel. Some of the ivory balls have naturally occurring stable fissures; a few are chipped. The wood core mounts on the base with an iron pin which is slightly loose.
The base has a naturally occuring knot and a split on the left side.
