- pair of moors, possibly emblematic of America and Africa
- ebonised wood, on alabaster and gilt wood bases
with labels on the underside inscribed: Holzplastiken, weibl.Figur (Amerika?), männl.Figur (Afrika?), kurze antikisierende Gewänder. Schwarzgefärbt, Holz. Italien/ Venedig 17./18. Jhdt.
Condition
Overall the condition of the figures is good. There is some minor wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. The proper left forearm of America has been reattached and there is a restoration to the thumb of the proper right hand of Africa. There are a few minor chips to the edges of the drapery.
There is some wear to the gilding on the base. The top sections of the base of Africa is split. The alabaster has some naturally opccurring inclusions which have been filled.
