Condition
STRUCTURE
Both canvases are unlined. There is one very small patch, verso, to the latter painting, in the upper left.
PAINT SURFACE
Both paintings appear to be in very good condition, and there is no apparent damage or paint loss in either. There is a slightly discoloured old varnish in the latter painting but otherwise both works are ready to hang.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals a very small number of scattered, very minor retouchings, to the first painting, predominantly in the background. In the second there is more extensive retouching and infilling to craquelure, again predominantly in the background There is also some strengthening to the outline of the horses legs.
FRAME
Held in matching wooden frames, with a gilded inner edge.
