Provenance

Acquired from a private collection in Manchester by the present owner circa 1920.

Condition

The canvas has an old relining which is stable and the painting has been quite recently restored. The figure herself has undergone fairly significant restoration, usually consisting of numerous localised retouchings such as to her cheeks and chin, her chest and hands, with numerous further retouchings and strengthenings throughout the background. The yellow dress is least affected but the brown undergarment is heavily restored.
