Description

  • a wooded landscape with animals drinking at a stream
  • oil on panel

Condition

The panel comprises two planks held by an old cradled which seems sound. There is an irregular old split in the panel running alongside and slightly above the original join. This has caused flaking and losses in the past, notably at the right hand end of the split. The paint surface itself is now very dirty and covered with a thick layer of discoloured varnish. There is some old restoration around the split but part from this the paint surface appears very well preserved indeed, with much original impasto intact, no sign of wear and only a few old scattered discoloured repairs visible. This lot is offered with a later gilt wood frame in good condition.
