Description

- a river landscape with women exchanging money in the foreground
- signed with monogram lower right: AA
- oil on panel
Provenance
In the collection of the family of the present owner since the early 20th century.
Condition
The painting is less green and redder in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The support consists of a single panel which is flat and stable. A 25 cm horizontal crack is visible upper right. The paint surface is dirty and under a discoloured varnish but is secure. Several scratches, scattered throughout the paint surface, can be made out: these are all visible in the catalogue illustration. The largest of these is upper centre. Small paint losses and areas of abrasion can be made out in the lower part of the painting, for example in the darker tones centre left as well as other scattered areas. Overall the painting appears to the naked eye to be in dirty but fair condition. Inspection under UV reveals only minor scattered retouchings. The painting would greatly benefit from a clean. Offered in a plain black wooden frame.
