Description
- Otto van Veen
- Mary Magdalene handing her jewellery to a servant, christ preaching in the background
- oil on panel
Condition
The actual painting is a little softer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The single panel has a vertical restored split running from the upper edge in the left corner of approx. 15 cm. There's a minor tendency towards flaking along the split. Otherwise, no damages are apparent and the paint layer appears in good condition. A few tiny retouched paint losses can be observed in Mary's chest, in her dress lower right, and in the background, as well as some minor retouchings in the background scene. The paint surface is under a fairly clear but dull varnish layer.
Inspection under UV light is partially impeded by the varnish layer, but does reveal a few small additional retouchings in the servant and in the figure on the left.
Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame, with decorations in all corners, in good condition.
