Description
- Gillis Peeters the Elder
- Dune landscape with travellers on a path;Fishermen unloading their catch on the shore, near a stronghold, shipping beyond
- a pair, the former indistinctly signed with initials lower left: .DP,;
the latter signed (?) with initials lower centre: B.P - both oil on panel, oval
Condition
The catalogue illustrations are representative for the actual paintings, although the beach scene is a little warmer in tone.
Both panels are flat and stable and seem to consist of two planks joined horizontally. The landscape has two tiny pinpoint holes, one in the upper left and one in the lower centre. The marine has a small dent left of the castle. Both paint surfaces are under a dirty and yellowed varnish and have a layer of surface dirt. The paint layers are secure, if a little thin in the sky. Inspection under UV light remains inconclusive due to the dirty varnish.
Offered in gilt plaster and wood frames with quite a few losses.
