Description
- Frederik van Valckenborch
- a mountainous forest landscape with several bridges crossing a river, with figures resting in the foreground
- signed with initials and dated lower left on the tree trunk: F/ VV/ 1622
- oil on canvas
Condition
The reds in the actual painting are less strong than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The canvas has a fairly recent effective relining. No damages are apparent and the paint layer appears in good condition. The paint surface is under a fairly clear and shiny layer of varnish. Some small retouchings can be made out in the background in the sky. Inspection under UV light reveals some additional small scattered retouchings, a repaired damage in the water lower centre and some minor strengthening in some of the figures.
Offered in a plain black wood frame in good condition.
