Anonymous sale, London, Sotheby's, 6 December 1995, lot 123.
Condition
The actual painting is less red and more clear in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel is stable and bevelled on all sides and consists of two horizontal planks, reinforced by battons to the reverse. The paint surface is in very good condition, albeit a bit thin throughout. Small discoloured retouchings can be observed in the statue to the left. Inspection under Ultra Violet light reveals small scattered retouchings in the sky, in the figures in the centre, but is also partly obscured by the clear, but thick varnish layer.
Offered in a a cabinet style, ebonised frame, in good condition. (ML)
