Description
- Pieter Jansz. van Asch
- An extensive dune landscape with a windmill near a small village, figures conversing on a path near cornfields
- signed (strengthened) lower left: P.V. Asch
- oil on canvas
Condition
The actual painting is less green and less red in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The canvas has a stable relining. No damages are apparent and the paint layer appears in good condition, if somewhat abraded in the wind mill and in the distant background. The paint surface is under a very dirty and discoloured varnish and its removal would improve the tonality of the painting. Retouchings are not discernible with the naked eye and inspection under UV is inconclusive due to the dirty varnish. Overall, the painting is in good condition. Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame in good condition.
