Description
- Dionys Verburg
- An extensive river landscape with a view of a town, figures on a path in the foreground
- signed with initials lower right: DVb
- oil on panel
Provenance
With Nijstad, Lochem/The Hague.
Condition
The actual painting is a little softer in tone and less blue than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The panel, which consists of two horizontal planks, is generally sound and lightly bevelled to the reverse. The paint layer is secure if a little thin in the sky. The paint surface is under a slightly dirty layer of varnish. Some retouchings can be observed along the join and in the sky. Inspection under UV light reveals a few additional retouchings in the water and in the lower foreground, but in particular the town and figures have been nicely preserved.
Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame in good condition.
