Description
- Thomas Heeremans
- A winter landscape with figures in horse-drawn sleighs and villagers skating on a frozen river outside city walls
- signed and dated lower centre: TH(in ligature)mans.i670
- oil on panel
Condition
The actual painting is less yellow and more subdued in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The panel, which consists of three horizontal planks, is sound. The paint surface is under a fairly fresh layer of varnish. To the naked eye, the paint surface appears well preserved with no sign of wear or major damage. Retouchings can be observed along the joins. Under UV light the sky looks substantially restored, but this is very nicely done. Additional scattered tiny retouchings are also revealed in the foreground, and in some of the(mainly background) figures, but only very minor ones in the buildings.
Offered in a plain wood frame with moulded fillets in good condition.
