Condition
The painting is warmer in tone and yellower than the catalogue illustration suggests. The work is offered in a carved and gilt wood frmae with minor losses. The canvas has quite a firm relining which has not flattened the paint surface. The paint surface is under a very slightly discoloured varnish which is still fresh with the impasto well preserved in the rabbits, flowers, peacock and in the head of the turkey. Slightly abraded areas include the trees centre right, the handle of the vase and the sky. Inspection under UV light reveals minor scattered retouchings and strengthenings in the darker tones where the paint has become rather sunken, for example in the black areas of the vase and in the lower part of the turket. Overall the painting is in good condition and retains its strong decorative impact.
