Catalogue Note
Fu durante il suo secondo viaggio in Italia che Huel realizzò i disegni che illustrano questi volumi. Nel 1779 l'autore fece ritorno a Parigi, ma gravi problemi economici gli impedirono di portare a termine il suo progetto editoriale. Solo dopo che Caterina di Russia acquistò molti dei suoi disegni ebbe a disposizione il capitale necessario per la pubblicazione di quest'opera monumentale.
