- Watercolor and gouache over black chalk, (a) heightened with gold;
both signed in brown ink: Barraband.;
(a) bears numbering in pencil, lower right corner: No 48 and illegible numbering in pencil, upper right: 29 (?); (b) numbered in brown ink on branch: 32 and bears numbering in pencil, lower right corner: No 32 and illegible numbering in pencil, upper right: 230 (?)

Literature
The Barbet was engraved as plate 23 of François Le Vaillant's Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux de Paradis et des Rolliers, published in 1803.
Condition
A) Sold in simple modern slip frame. An area of repaired holes and light yellow stains to centre of right edge, but otherwise the condition is good and fresh.
B) In excellent condition. There is a slight loss to the lower right corner, where there are also two tiny light brown forx marks. Otherwise the sheet is clear and the medium strong.
