Description
- Johann Carl Loth
- A philosopher deep in thought holding a sculpted head
- oil on canvas, unlined
Condition
The original is a little less yellow than it appears in the catalogue illustration.
The canvas is unlined. There are a handful of small patches on the reverse the largest of which is approx 10 cm lower right in his upper arm and is visible on the front of the canvas.
The paint is secure and in good condition with thick chunks of impasto remaining on the two heads under an old dirty varnish.
Inspection under UV light reveals retouching work in the aforementioned patched damage, in the darker parts of the background upper left and in his dress. Both the heads are well preserved in original condition.
Offered in a plain wooden frame painted yellow.
