- A capriccio of classical ruins, a sarcophagus and a temple with with a soldier and other reclining figures.

Provenance
Private Collection, Toronto where acquired by the owners in Europe, circa 1960.
Condition
The canvas has an old but effective relining and is offered in a modern frame. The paint surface appears in good condition if a little flat under the yellowed varnish. Inspection under UV light confirms the good condition.

Catalogue Note
We are grateful to Dr. David Ryley Marshall for suggesting an attribution to Panini and dating it to the 1730's. Another slightly smaller version was sold Rome, Villa Christie's, 23 September 1988, lot 1323 where the attribution was endorsed by Fernando Arisi.
