Description
- Nicola Vaccaro
- holy family with the infant saint john the baptist
- oil on canvas, unframed
Condition
The unframed canvas has an old and effective relining. The varnish has discoloured and the paint surface is dirty. Scattered paint losses can be made out upper centre, and centre left and right. Inspection under UV lgiht reveals scattered retouchings which are localised. The painting would benefit from a clean and a new varnish

Catalogue Note
This is an early work by Nicola Vaccaro, closely comparable in style and handling to the several versions of the same subject dated by Mariaclaudia Izzo to the 1660s (see M. Izzo, Nicola Vaccaro, Todi 2009, pp. 159-60, cat. nos. A9-A9c). The attribution is due to Dottssa. Mariaclaudia Izzo and Dr. Erich Schleier, to whom we are grateful, on the basis of photographs.
