Description

  • Adam Silo
  • A dutch man o'war and other sailing vessels in calm waters
  • signed lower left: adam silo
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

Anonymous sale, London, Sotheby's, 18 November 1992, lot 162 as circle of Charles Martin Powell.

Condition

The relined canvas is unframed. The paint surface is very dirty, under a discoloured varnish, but appears to be secure and stable with some fine craquelure throughout. A small tear is present in the ship lower centre, as well as a very small paint loss to the right of the ship. The painting otherwise appears to be in good but dirty condition and inspection under UV light does not point to damages or retouchings. It appears that the painting would clean well.
