This impressive piece of petrified wood is remarkable for its size, already unusual for any part of the Chinle formation, and for any other worldwide. Its polished face is characterized by different pastel shades of grey and reddish brown. The piece is lined with its bark of mineral origin, as should be the case for authentic fossilized wood, masterpieces of nature. This is, according to our expertise, one of the most beautiful specimens that can be found. A slow process of mineralisation occurred for this wood, surrounded by the sediment that then engulfed it in the bowels of the Earth. It is still a pure coincidence if the elevation movement of a ground surface, and of course the induced erosion of that surface, reveal these wonders of nature. More than 220 million years after their disappearance, they re-emerge thus to the eyes of the world, marvellously transformed after this resurrection. This wood fossil owes its red colour to iron oxides, and its harmonious grey tones to maganese. The locality of Chinle remains famous for the quality of colours in the petrified wood that has emerged there. Table legs are provided.
