Catalogue Note

This is evidently a very early version of part of the duet "Signor Johnson, siete rimasto indietro" (Figure 96 of the vocal score edition by Ricordi).  The music is in 6/4 time, and features a long pedal A in the bass, but most of the chords present here were later recomposed.  Puccini's caption at the top of the first page "oro barile" refers to the gold kept concealed in a barrel under the table of the Polka Saloon, which Minnie shows Johnson during their duet.
