Catalogue Note

Autograph music manuscripts by Holst are rare at auction, this one being unrecorded.  "If you love songs" is the first of eight canons, all based on texts from Helen Waddell's Medieval English Lyrics (1929). Michael Short records autographs of only the canons 4, 5, 6 & 8 (Gustav Holst. A Centenary Documentation, 1974, M30).
