Catalogue Note
Contemporary playbills for Beethoven's major concerts are rarely offered for sale. The series of Vienna public concerts known as the Concerts Spirituels were founded in 1819 by Eduard von Lannoy and F.X. Gebauer, the latter an early member of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde. Concerning the date of the first programme, see David Wyn Jones, The Symphony in Beethoven's Vienna (Cambridge, 2006), pp.193-194.
