- Executed circa 1940
Condition
The painting is in good condition, as is the silk, which is without runs, tears or holes. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals no indication of retouching. There are some minor scattered flecks of paint loss – mostly on the lower register of the painting, but paint layers are otherwise well-preserved and in good condition.
The colour of the peonies in the actual painting are slightly brighter and whiter than that of the catalogue illustration.
