Description
- head of a woman
Red chalk
Condition
Unframed. Hinged at the top margin and also at the centre of the sheet. Traces of a fold across the woman's bust, with some slight yellow staining (visible in the catalogue illustration). Some tiny fox marks, particularly towards the margins of the drawing, where the sheet appears to be slightly more stained and with some surface dirt. A small nick in the centre of the uppper margin. The red chalk is much stronger than the catalogue illustration, the paper is also much whiter. The drawing is in quite good condition.

Catalogue Note
The present drawing is most likely preparatory for a secular painting. It retains many characteristics of Maratti's style, but it appears more geometric through the use of strong lines in the definition of the nose, the eyes and the neck.
