Modelled as a butterfly, centring on an old European-cut diamond weighing approximately 2.60 carats, the wings set 'en tremblant' with old-cut diamonds, the thorax set with an oval diamond weighing approximately 2.50 carats and two old-cut diamonds, accented by circular-cut ruby-set eyes, the diamonds together weighing approximately 46.75 carats, mounted in silver-topped gold and 14 karat yellow gold.



Provenance

Previously in the collection of HRH Princess Mary, The Princess Royal (1897-1965). Princess Mary was the daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, she was the sixth holder of the title 'Princess Royal' and after her marriage, became Countess of Harewood.

Condition

Colour and Clarity: In our opinion, the diamonds are about J-K colour, SI-I clarity, there are some chips to the diamonds and dark and colourless crystal inclusions, typical of diamonds of this period and not noticeable when worn. Diamonds are bright and lively. The rubies are of a lively red colour. Dimensions 5.20 x 9.50cm. Condition: In excellent condition for its age. With royal provenance, previously in the collection of HRH Princess Mary, The Princess Royal (1897-1965). With removable brooch fitting.
