Emerald and diamond necklace, second quarter of the 19th century

Description

Composed of nine step-cut emeralds alternating with stylised foliate spacers set with rose, circular-cut and cushion-shaped diamonds, the front embellished with a floral and scrolling leaf motif, length approximately 430mm.

Condition

Metal tested as silver and gold. Emerald estimated to weigh approximately (from female to male clasp) 2.60, 3.00, 3.55, 3.55, 8.65, 4.50, 3.70, 4.10 and 2.30. Gauged in mount. Emeralds with typical crystal inclusions, some surface reaching, minor chips, nicks and abrasion. Well matched in colour. Diamonds estimated to weigh approximately 10.00 carats. Mixed in cut, colour and clarity. Some tarnish to metal commensurate with age and wear. Well preserved and in good condition.
